Austin College has named its 2026 Distinguished Alumni and volunteer award winners, a group that includes Grayson County's incoming 397th District Court judge and a longtime organizer of Sherman community events.

In a release published over the weekend, the college said it recognized the honorees at a dinner on Friday, Oct. 2. According to the college, the awards go to graduates who have distinguished themselves in their careers and communities and who support the school.

Distinguished Alumni

Art Clayton, Class of 1995, is judge-elect of the 397th District Court of Grayson County. The college said he was named Grayson County's Prosecutor of the Year in 2024, has given more than 100 community talks on subjects ranging from internet safety to DNA cases, teaches continuing legal education courses for the State Bar of Texas, and has spoken to the college's Pre-Law Society. He is also an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA).

David Morgan, Class of 1996, has been city manager of Georgetown, Texas, since 2015. He spent 17 years with the City of Richardson before that, rising from an entry-level administrative assistant to deputy city manager and chief operating officer. The Texas City Management Association named him its 2025 Administrator of the Year, and the Texas Public Power Association gave him its Gary Brown Service Award.

Sharon Larson, Class of 2001, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with Texas Health Heart and Lung Surgical Specialists and surgical director of the ECMO program at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. Her honors listed by the college include research awards from NYU Langone and a Presidential Citation this year from the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.

The college's First Decade Award, for a recent graduate, went to Mackenzie Bolen, Class of 2021, a postdoctoral scholar in neurology and neurological sciences at Stanford University whose research looks at lifestyle factors that could slow neurodegenerative disease.

Volunteer awards

Ginger Nye received the Heywood C. Clemons Volunteer Service Award. During her years with the Sherman Department of Tourism and Chamber of Commerce, she facilitated Leadership Sherman, managed the chamber's ambassadors, and created and ran the first 10 years of the Hot Summer Nights concert series, along with the Art Dash benefiting the Sherman Cultural District. In 20 years at First United Bank she started Wind Down Wednesdays, which she brought to Austin College after retiring in 2025.

Dr. Frank Rohmer, associate professor emeritus of political science, received the Cindy Curtis Bean Service to Alumni Award. He joined the faculty in 1988 and retired this year. The college credited him with organizing the Dr. Kenneth Street Law Symposium for several years, helping found the Austin College Public Administration Symposium, and sponsoring the Alumni "L" Law Association.
