Grayson County commissioners on Monday accepted a $54,057.59 insurance check for water damage at the Texoma Regional Blood Center building in Sherman and approved handing the money to Carter BloodCare, the blood supplier that now runs the center.

The item was on the commissioners court's consent agenda for its Oct. 5 meeting, which means it was approved with other routine business in a single vote. According to the request filed by County Auditor Suzette Smith, the check came from the Texas Association of Counties, which provides insurance coverage to Texas counties.

The request does not describe what caused the damage or when it happened, and the only attachment posted with it is a copy of the check.

A temporary home

Sherman's donor center has been operating away from its usual location since mid-August. A notice on Carter BloodCare's page for its Texoma center says the center would temporarily move to 1930 N. Grand Ave. beginning Aug. 12, 2026.

Carter BloodCare's notice does not say why the center moved or when it expects to return, and the county's paperwork does not link the move to the water damage.

At the temporary site, the center lists these hours:

  • Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Closed Sunday

The page lists whole blood, double red cell, platelet and plasma donations, and donors can book an appointment online or call 903-893-4314.

From Texoma Regional to Carter BloodCare

Texoma Regional Blood Center has merged with Carter BloodCare, and the Sherman center now operates as Carter BloodCare-Texoma. Carter BloodCare says the Sherman center continues to supply transfusions in Grayson and Fannin counties and that donors will see the same staff they knew under the old name.

In February, after icy weather forced the center to close temporarily, Carter BloodCare said it particularly needed platelet donors in the Sherman-Denison area.

For October, Carter BloodCare's Texoma page is advertising a glow-in-the-dark shirt as a thank-you gift for donors.
