Sherman Fire-Rescue's Klown Kompany, the department's troupe of firefighter clowns, is taking its fire safety act to the stage of Kidd-Key Auditorium next week.
The troupe has two performances scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, one at 1 p.m. and another at 6 p.m., firefighters Luke Jennings and Shane Kenney told KTEN in an interview that aired Friday. The pair are part of the department's clown program, which uses comedy to teach children how to stay safe.
The department sends the Klown Kompany to area elementary schools each year with lessons on fire prevention, stranger danger and calling 911, KXII reported when the group closed its 2025 season with a free show at the same auditorium.
Jennings, a captain, explained the approach to the station at the time: material children might tune out becomes something they remember when it arrives as a show. That 2025 performance was the last of that season, and the department said then that the clowns would return this year.
Night Out comes first
The clown shows cap a busy week for Sherman's first responders. Sherman police are holding National Night Out on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fairview Park, according to KTEN. The evening is built around family activities and a chance for residents to meet the officers, firefighters and other responders who work in the city.
