The Grayson County Historical Society will turn to how pioneer-era Texans got their schooling at its monthly gathering on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at Frontier Village and Museum in Loy Lake Park, in its Judge R.C. Vaughan Community Room, which sits between Sherman and Denison off U.S. 75 at Exit 67.
The program
Heather Boykin will present "School Days on the Texas Frontier," covering the lessons, daily routines and hardships early students faced and the role small schools played as Texas communities grew, according to the society.
The society says Boykin has spent more than 25 years studying the social history of women and children and the material culture of the 1800s, early education among it. She spent three years as curator of McKinney's Chestnut Square Historic Village, directed Prairie Adventure Camp for nine, and has been a board member for both Sherman's C.S. Roberts House and Grayson County Frontier Village.
