Homemade sign puts a 20-year-old Sherman singer on stage with Riley Green two nights running

Reese Nikole almost did not hold up her sign.

The 20-year-old from Sherman brought it to Riley Green's concert at the Choctaw Grand Theater in Durant, Oklahoma, on Oct. 2. It asked a yes-or-no question: could she sing Ella Langley's part when Green performed "You Look Like You Love Me," his 2024 duet with Langley.

"I never thought that it was going to happen. I wouldn't even put the sign up because I was like, he's going to reject it," she told KXII in an interview the station aired Sunday.

Green said yes, and she sang the song with him that night while her mother watched over FaceTime, according to Backstage Country, a country music news site that wrote about the duets Friday.

A second night

Nikole told KXII she was given free tickets to come back for Green's show the following night.

Backstage Country reported that when Green spotted her in the crowd on Oct. 3, he told the audience he'd had "a very talented young lady get up here out of the crowd last night" and brought her up to sing it again, changing a few lyrics to mention Oklahoma and the boots she had on.

Videos she and other concertgoers posted have drawn more than a million views between them, both outlets reported.

Nikole said nerves hit the moment she looked into the crowd. "Every time I looked at him, it was like it just went away," she told the station.

Years of singing at home

She has sung since childhood, at home, at church and on social media, but told KXII that her stage fright grew as she got older, to the point that she let a chance to audition for NBC's "The Voice" slip by. Green is a coach on the show, and she said that if she tried out now she would pick his team "100%."

She also said that about a year earlier she had told her mother she would get on stage at a Riley Green concert, then did not attend that show.

Friends interviewed by the station said they hope the moment gives her the confidence to put herself forward. "I hope she goes and gets herself out there a little bit more," said Mikaylah Komorowski.

Green plays Nashville on Oct. 30, then several Las Vegas dates in December, according to Backstage Country.
