Harry Houdini stood on the stage of Austin College's Hoxie Thompson Auditorium on Oct. 16, 1924, 102 years ago today. Next week a magician who got his start in Sherman will take the same stage to mark the 100th anniversary of the escape artist's death, which came two years after that visit.
Austin College announced Thursday that Rudy Reynoso will present two free events in the auditorium, inside Sherman Hall on the campus at 900 N. Grand Ave.
The schedule
- Lecture, Thursday, Oct. 22, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Reynoso will speak on "Houdini's Life, Legacy, & Fight for Truth." No registration is needed.
- Magic show, Friday, Oct. 23, 7 to 8 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. The show is free, but the college is asking people to reserve tickets through an online registration page, with a limit of four per person.
The college described the Friday performance as a one-time show with an act inspired by Houdini, and invited residents from across Texoma to attend.
