The Sherman Police Department's Fright Fest, a trick-or-treating night that has run every year since 2001, returns for its 25th edition on Friday, Oct. 30.
The event is set for 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Sherman High School parking lot at 2907 W. Travis St., according to the department's event page. The department says it draws up to 3,000 people a year.
Police Sgt. Brandon Hughes outlined this year's plans for the City Council at its Oct. 5 meeting. City documents for that meeting describe the presentation as informational, with no council action and no cost to the city.
How it works
Instead of going door to door, children collect candy from booths set up by local businesses, churches and organizations. The department calls it a safe and controlled setting for trick-or-treating.
Vendors may advertise their group however they like but are not allowed to sell anything, the event page says. The department encourages them to go all out on decorations, and the booth judged best receives the Cindy Carr Spooky Booth Award.
