Salsa Tex-Mex picked as the first sit-down restaurant at Sherman Crossroads as a run of new openings begins

The Metroplex chain is expected to break ground next year beside the H-E-B site, KXII reported Friday, as Bubba's 33 held its ribbon cutting and LongHorn Steakhouse set a Dec. 14 opening.

Salsa Tex-Mex will be the first sit-down restaurant at Sherman Crossroads, the development taking shape next to the planned H-E-B, according to a KXII report published Friday afternoon. The chain has about five restaurants in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and crews are expected to start construction next year, the station reported.

The announcement came the same day Bubba's 33 held a ribbon cutting in Sherman. KXII reported the restaurant opens to the public at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, and that it is the first of several dining openings lined up in the city over the coming months.

What else is on the list

KXII listed these projects in its report:

  • LongHorn Steakhouse, next door to Bubba's 33, with a Dec. 14 opening.
  • First Watch, planned in the former Taco Cabana building in the Town Center area. State building filings we reported in October describe a 108-seat restaurant with a covered patio and no drive-thru.
  • Chuy's, planned on a site between IHOP and Texas Roadhouse.

The city's explanation

Nate Strauch, community and support services manager for the City of Sherman, told KXII that a sit-down restaurant at Sherman Crossroads shows the development is maturing, and that the city expects more to follow there.

"Now that a lot of those houses have been bought up and been filled with new families, you're starting to see a lot of these restaurants respond," Strauch told KXII, describing the new homes on the city's south side, where Texas Instruments and GlobalWafers have added thousands of jobs.

Sherman Chamber of Commerce President Emilie Harris told the station that residents have had the same dining choices for a long time and that the new arrivals include brands many people have not tried before.

Site work for the H-E-B at Sherman Crossroads, including a new road, was finished in October. A store opening date has not been announced. KXII did not report a timeline for Chuy's or First Watch.
