A Dominant Road Performance

DJ Lagway orchestrated a comprehensive offensive display, throwing for four touchdowns and 306 yards to lead the Baylor Bears to a decisive 55-19 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils. The final score at Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, AZ, reflected a game where the visiting team controlled the tempo from the opening drive, capitalizing on efficient scoring drives while limiting Arizona State’s opportunities.

Lagway’s precision was evident throughout the contest. He completed 25 of 40 passes, connecting with multiple receivers for scores. His performance included a 63-yard run by Ryelan Morris in the first quarter, which set an early tone, followed by touchdown passes to Tony Livingston, Louis Brown IV, Hawkins Polley, and Jadon Porter.

The quarterback also contributed on the ground himself, adding an 11-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Scoring Breakdown by Quarter

The Bears jumped out to a quick lead, scoring 14 points in the first quarter against Arizona State’s three points. After Carson Smith opened the scoring with a 46-yard field goal for the Sun Devils, Baylor responded immediately with Morris’s long run and Livingston’s reception from Lagway.

In the second quarter, Baylor extended its advantage to 21-3 before Smith kicked a 32-yard field goal for Arizona State. The Sun Devils briefly cut into the deficit when Cutter Boley threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Omarion Miller, making it 21-13. However, Rhett Armstrong’s 36-yard field goal just before halftime restored a double-digit lead, ending the half at 24-13.

The third quarter saw Baylor pull away significantly, outscoring Arizona State 21-3. Lagway connected with Polley and Porter for consecutive touchdowns, while Caden Knighten added a 75-yard rushing score. Smith kicked another field goal for the Sun Devils in the period, but the margin continued to widen.

Final Drive and Records

Arizona State managed only three more points in the fourth quarter on a 40-yard Smith field goal. Baylor closed out the scoring with Lagway’s rushing touchdown and Armstrong’s 23-yard field goal, bringing the final tally to 55-19.

Key statistical performances highlighted the disparity between the two offenses. For Arizona State, Boley finished with 304 passing yards on 25-of-43 passing, including one touchdown and one interception. Kyson Brown provided the ground game with 34 yards on seven carries, while Reed Harris led the receiving corps with seven catches for 125 yards.

Baylor’s defense held firm against these efforts, limiting the Sun Devils to a single quarter of significant scoring. The Bears’ rushing attack was also effective, with Morris contributing 84 yards on nine carries and one touchdown. Gavin Freeman was a reliable target in the passing game, hauling in seven receptions for 115 yards.

The win improves Baylor’s record to 4-1, while Arizona State falls to 2-2 after playing at home in front of 54,063 spectators on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
