Rakell’s shootout goal lifts Penguins past Stars 2-1

Rakell settles the game

Five players scored in the shootout, and Rickard Rakell supplied the final goal as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026. The result came at PPG Paints Arena, where the Penguins played at home before an announced attendance of 18,192.

Ben Kindel opened the shootout for Pittsburgh with a wrist shot, followed by Sidney Crosby’s wrist-shot goal. Dallas’ Tyler Seguin and Wyatt Johnston answered with wrist-shot goals before Rakell scored the deciding goal with a wrist shot.

Third-period exchange

The first two periods were scoreless, according to the period scoring. Pittsburgh broke through in the third when Connor Dewar scored on a backhand, with Blake Lizotte credited with the assist. The goal was Dewar’s first of the game and put the Penguins ahead 1-0.

Dallas answered in the same period. Seguin scored on a tip-in, assisted by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen, to tie the game 1-1. Neither team added another regulation goal, sending the game to a shootout, where Pittsburgh secured the final 2-1 result.

Leaders and records

Dewar led Pittsburgh with one goal and one point, while Lizotte recorded one assist. For Dallas, Seguin finished with one goal and one point, and Heiskanen had one assist. Seguin also scored in the shootout for the Stars.

The Penguins moved to 3-2-1 with seven points after the game. The Stars’ record became 2-2-1, giving Dallas five points.
