Emerson has released five new artificial intelligence agents for the power and water sectors, expanding the capabilities of its Ovation Automation Platform 4.0. The company states that these tools are designed to significantly reduce the time required for industrial diagnostics, potentially cutting the process from hours or days down to minutes.
The new agents, which include Sequence Assistant, Alarm Insight, Predictive Maintenance, Root Cause, and Loop Performance Monitor, operate autonomously in the background of plant operations. They continuously monitor equipment conditions and recommend actions to operators. The system utilizes a human-in-the-loop design, ensuring that human operators retain final control over the automated recommendations.
Early deployments of the technology have reportedly yielded specific results. One agent identified a failed permissive in seconds, while another detected an equipment anomaly before it escalated into a critical issue. These early tests demonstrate the agents' ability to handle high volumes of alerts and identify issues rapidly.
Emerson plans to launch these five agents to a broader customer base in the fall. The company also outlined a roadmap for the development of 28 additional agents focused on operations, maintenance, and optimization across its industrial portfolio.
The announcement follows a series of previous AI-related developments for the company, including collaborations on edge AI capabilities and the integration of test automation software.
