Emerson has introduced the Flexim FLUXUS 631 series, a new line of portable, non-intrusive clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeters. The device is designed to measure the flow of liquids, gases, and steam without requiring interruptions to ongoing operations. It serves as a tool for temporary, on-demand flow measurement, particularly when permanent meters are not available or when users need to verify existing installations.

The 631 series is positioned as the flagship product within Emerson’s portable flow measurement portfolio. It supports various industrial and municipal applications, including oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation, food and beverage production, water and wastewater management, metals and mining, and life sciences. The company states that the equipment helps users increase maintenance and energy efficiency while improving overall plant performance.

Key features include a refined human-machine interface with a large integrated display that shows installation graphics, live values, and trend visualization. Setup is designed to be quick, with liquid measurements potentially running in under five minutes. The device is powered by a high-capacity lithium-ion battery that provides more than 25 hours of autonomous operation. A low-power mode extends this duration up to 80 days for long-term monitoring tasks.

The flowmeters are housed in a robust enclosure rated IP65 and IP67, allowing them to maintain performance in demanding environments. Advanced compensation mechanisms help ensure accurate measurements in disturbed flow conditions, even where straight pipe runs are limited. The series offers dual measurement channels and ultra-fast update rates of up to 20 milliseconds. Connectivity options include Modbus RTU, digital and current outputs, and USB interfaces for data transfer and configuration.

An integrated Dynamic Gas Meter feature allows for reliable flow measurement despite variations in gas composition. This function also enables the determination of gas density and concentration without requiring a chromatograph. Various models are available to handle different media types, including low-pressure gases, liquids with entrained gas or solid content, high viscosity liquids, and saturated or high-temperature steam.

By eliminating measurement blind spots and avoiding unplanned downtime, the 631 series aims to help users maintain operational continuity. It supports condition monitoring, leak detection, and energy performance analysis, providing transparency into the real-world performance of pumps, compressors, and other equipment under actual operating conditions.

Emerson employs about 450 people in Sherman, according to local government records.
