Astros Rally Past Nationals 6-3 Behind Allen's Drive

Key Offensive Contributions

Nick Allen provided the primary offensive spark for the Houston Astros, driving in three runs during Tuesday’s contest against the Washington Nationals. His efforts helped secure a 6-3 victory at Nationals Park, where the Astros improved their record to 46-48. The Nationals, hosting the game, fell to 47-46.

Allen’s production included a sacrifice fly in the second inning that scored Walker, followed by a two-hit single in the fourth that brought in Dezenzo and Walker. He added another RBI opportunity in the sixth when he singled to right, allowing Dezenzo to score. Jose Altuve also contributed significantly with a home run in the eighth inning, extending the Astros' lead to 6-2.

Game Progression

The Nationals took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Wood homered to right center. The Astros tied the game in the second when Allen’s sacrifice fly allowed Walker to score. Washington regained the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by Abrams that scored Wood.

Houston’s offense broke through in the fourth inning. Allen’s single to left plated Dezenzo and Walker, giving the Astros a 3-2 advantage. Vázquez added an insurance run later in the frame with a sacrifice fly to center that scored Matthews, making it 4-2.

The Astros extended their lead in the sixth inning when Vázquez singled to right, scoring Dezenzo to make it 5-2. Altuve’s eighth-inning home run to left center pushed the margin to 6-2. The Nationals managed a final run in the ninth when Tena homered to right center, ending the scoring at 6-3.

Pitching Performances

Andrew Alvarez started for Washington, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing five earned runs on four hits with five walks before being charged with the loss, dropping his record to 2-2. Justin Lawrence, Matt Krook, Riley Cornelio, and Carson Palmquist relieved him, combining for 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.

For Houston, Tatsuya Imai started and pitched 3.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Steven Okert earned the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three batters. Enyel De Los Santos and Bryan King each pitched a scoreless inning to secure the save opportunities, with King recording his 12th save of the season. Bryan Abreu and Alimber Santa provided relief, with Abreu closing the game and Josh Hader earning his 10th save by pitching the final frame.
