Keith Dominates Offense

Colt Keith provided the offensive spark for the Detroit Tigers, delivering a career-defining performance with three home runs and six runs batted in. His power display helped Detroit secure a decisive 9-3 victory over the Houston Astros on Tuesday at Daikin Park.

Keith’s first long ball came in the third inning, a 411-foot shot to right center that scored two runs and extended Detroit’s lead to 4-0. He added another two-run homer in the seventh inning, driving the ball 344 feet to right field. The Tigers’ slugger capped his night in the ninth inning with a solo home run to left field, measuring 347 feet.

Early Lead and Third-Inning Surge

Detroit established an early advantage in the first inning. After being hit by a pitch, McGonigle scored, while Dingler and Greene advanced to second and third, respectively, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers expanded their margin in the second inning when McGonigle homered to right field, a 383-foot blast that made the score 2-0.

The third inning proved pivotal for Detroit. Following Keith’s two-run homer, Torkelson added a solo shot to left field, a 372-foot home run that pushed the lead to 5-0. However, the Astros responded immediately. Paredes homered to left, a 358-foot shot that scored Walker, narrowing the deficit to 5-2. Altuve followed with a solo home run to left center, a 410-foot drive that made the score 5-3.

Defensive Stand and Late Insurance

Detroit’s pitching staff maintained control after the third-inning rally. The Tigers’ bullpen allowed no further runs despite the Astros’ offensive threats. In the fifth inning, Dingler scored on a passed ball by Houston’s Vázquez, though the scoring sequence notes a duplicate entry for this play, resulting in a 6-3 score. The Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh when Dingler scored on another passed ball by Vázquez, making it 8-3 before Keith’s second homer of the game.

Pitching Performance

Kyle Finnegan earned the win for Detroit, pitching one inning with no earned runs allowed. Tyler Holton recorded the save, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing no runs. Kai-Wei Teng took the loss for Houston, pitching 3.1 innings while allowing five earned runs on six hits.

The final score was 9-3. The Tigers improved their record to 30-42, while the Astros fell to 33-41. Attendance was 26,632.
