Seymour's Strikeout Show

Ian Seymour delivered a dominant performance on the mound, retiring 10 batters with strikes while allowing only two earned runs over six innings. The Tampa Bay Rays starter kept the Houston Astros offense in check for the majority of the game, setting the stage for a tight contest at Tropicana Field.

His efficiency was crucial in holding the visitors to just two runs before the game entered its final frames.

Early Lead and Comeback

The Astros took an early lead in the first inning when Paredes hit a 391-foot home run to left center. Houston extended their advantage to 2-1 in the fifth inning when Palacios singled to center, allowing Mesa Jr. and Simpson to score. The Rays responded in the sixth inning as Diaz singled to left, enabling Altuve to score and tie the game at 2-2.

The balance of power shifted in the seventh inning when Madrigal hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Piper and giving Tampa Bay the 3-2 lead that would hold.

Closing the Game

Tyler Wells recorded the win after pitching one scoreless inning, allowing one walk and striking out two batters. Ty Johnson followed with two-thirds of a scoreless inning, issuing one walk and striking out one. Bryan Baker closed the game for the save, pitching one and one-third scoreless innings with one hit, no walks, and one strikeout.

The Rays finished with a record of 89-59, while the Astros dropped to 75-74. Attendance at the venue was 24,642.

Pitching Staffs

Peter Lambert took the loss for Houston after pitching six innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs while striking out four. He issued no walks. The bullpen included Bennett Sousa, who pitched two-thirds of an inning without allowing hits or earned runs, issuing one walk.

AJ Blubaugh pitched one inning, allowing one hit and two walks without earning a run. Bryan King pitched one-third of an inning without hits or earned runs, issuing one walk.
