Offensive Explosion

CJ Abrams and Luis García Jr. both reached the 20-home-run milestone on Wednesday, driving in a combined five runs as the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros 8-2. The two sluggers provided the bulk of the offensive firepower, with García Jr. delivering a three-run blast in the fourth inning and Abrams adding a solo shot in the fifth.

The Nationals built their lead in the third inning. Abrams advanced to third base before scoring on a sacrifice fly to left field by Wood. Shortly after, Lile doubled to left field, allowing García Jr. to cross the plate for a 2-0 advantage.

Key Inning

Washington’s offense broke the game open in the fourth. García Jr. homered to right-center field, measuring 417 feet, which scored Ruiz and Wood to extend the lead to 5-0. The Nationals continued to pile on runs in the fifth inning. Matthews singled to center field, scoring Diaz to make it 5-1. Abrams then homered to right-center field (415 feet) for his 20th home run, pushing the score to 6-1. Tena grounded out to first, allowing Lile to score, while Vivas moved to second and Crews to third. Ruiz then hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Crews to complete the five-run frame.

Pitching Dominance

Foster Griffin earned the win for Washington, pitching seven innings of efficient baseball. He allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out nine batters without issuing a walk. Orlando Ribalta and Justin Lawrence each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game for the Nationals.

Spencer Arrighetti took the loss for Houston, struggling through four innings. He surrendered eight earned runs on seven hits and six walks, striking out two batters. Alimber Santa, Nate Pearson, and Cristian Javier combined to pitch the final five innings, allowing no further runs.

Final Score and Records

Houston managed two runs in the eighth inning. Allen reached on an infield single to shortstop, and Dezenzo scored on a throwing error by shortstop Abrams, with Allen advancing to second. The final score was 8-2 in favor of Washington.

The victory improved the Washington Nationals' record to 48-46. The Houston Astros fell to 46-49. The game was played at Nationals Park in Washington, District of Columbia, with an attendance of 17,760.
