Sherman's fire department administration is renewing a service agreement with Grayson County commissioners. The contract, valued at $362,000, covers fire and emergency medical services for individuals residing outside the city limits.
Sherman Fire Chief Billy Hartsfield stated that residents living within the city boundaries do not pay city taxes to fund these specific services. The agreement ensures that coverage extends to areas beyond the municipal borders.
In addition to the county contract, the department will maintain mutual aid relationships with other fire and EMS agencies. Hartsfield indicated that these partnerships allow the department to seek support from neighboring agencies when necessary.
The renewal continues the existing framework for providing emergency response to the broader region while keeping the city's internal tax structure for residents unchanged.
