Sherman Medical Center organized a community event to mark National Overdose Awareness Day. The initiative focused on educating attendees about the signs of opioid overdose and the proper use of emergency reversal medication.
A pharmacist from the hospital demonstrated how to administer portable Narcan nasal kits to those present. The staff also outlined the initial indicators of an overdose and the specific steps required after the treatment has been applied.
Steve Rodriguez, the pharmacy director at the facility, noted that Narcan is an over-the-counter product available at local pharmacies. He stated that the medical center also stocks these units and aims to share them with the public to increase accessibility.
"It's an over the counter product that's available, you can get it at a pharmacy, but here at the Sherman medical center we have them available as well. We have all these units and we just want to share them with the public and let them know," Rodriguez said.
