Sherman police arrested a 28-year-old man on Saturday night after an incident involving a suspected intoxicated driver resulted in injuries to an officer. The suspect, identified as Jose Padilla-Sanchez, now faces several criminal charges stemming from the encounter.
According to police, officers were initially dispatched to the 5200 block of West Houston Street to investigate a report of a possible intoxicated driver. The vehicle was subsequently located in the 300 block of South Heritage Parkway. Authorities stated that Padilla-Sanchez appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the stop.
The situation escalated when officers attempted to take the suspect into custody. Police reported that Padilla-Sanchez tried to seize equipment from an officer’s belt. Additionally, he is accused of striking a second officer in the face. The department stated that the officer sustained minor injuries that did not require medical attention.
To subdue the suspect, law enforcement utilized a Taser. Padilla-Sanchez was then transported to the Grayson County Jail for booking. He has been charged with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and assault on a peace officer.
