Sherman Arts Fest returns for 45th year with 100+ vendors

Preparations are nearly complete for the 45th annual Arts Fest in Sherman, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday. The event will center around Kidd-Key Park and the Sherman Municipal Building, hosting more than 100 vendors. Two stages will provide live entertainment and art displays throughout the day.

Sarah McRae, the Sherman Tourism and Main Street Manager, noted that the day prior to the festival is often as busy as the event itself due to setup logistics. "The day before the festival is almost just as busy as festival day for us," McRae said. "We’ve marked all of the spaces for the vendors."

Family-oriented activities include two dedicated areas for children featuring free fair rides such as a Ferris wheel, a rocking pirate ship, and spinning teacups. Inside the Sherman Municipal Ballroom, visitors can view the Sherman Art League Art Show and Sale, alongside a youth art exhibition.

The schedule begins with a 5K and Fun Run at 8 a.m., followed by the official opening of the festival at 9 a.m. The event will run until 4 p.m., regardless of weather conditions. McRae, who has attended the festival since childhood, expressed enthusiasm for her current role in planning the event.

"I grew up coming to this event, so it’s really fun to get to help plan it as a grown-up here in Sherman," she said.

Local businesses are preparing for increased foot traffic. Bret Miller, owner of Cranky’s Ice Cream, stated that the shop has been stocking up on inventory in anticipation of the crowd. "I’ve been making a lot of ice cream this week," Miller said. "We’ve been really stocking up on ice cream." The festival coincides with the first anniversary of Cranky’s Ice Cream.

To ensure pedestrian safety, several streets surrounding the festival grounds will be closed to vehicle traffic. Free public parking is available behind 903 Brewers and in the farmers market parking lot once that market concludes.
