Sherman Police Department has identified the 2009 shooting death of Latisha Colson as one of 16 active cold cases. The department is asking the public to review the details of the crime and provide any information that might help solve the mystery.
Colson, who was 30 years old at the time of her death, was shot in the neck on February 24, 2009. The incident occurred just outside her residence in the Crossroads mobile home community. She was transported to a hospital where she later died from her injuries.
According to Sherman Police spokesperson Sgt. Brandon Hughes, the timing of the crime presented challenges for investigators. He noted that while the shooting happened during the winter at night, residents of the Crossroads community were often outdoors socializing during that period in 2009. Despite the likelihood of witnesses, no one came forward at the time.
Colson’s daughters, Alexandra and Maddison, were nine and 12 years old when they learned of their mother’s death. They have spent years attempting to find answers on their own. Alexandra Colson stated that she and her sister have tried to investigate people their mother knew, though they acknowledged the limits of their efforts.
The family faced additional hurdles in seeking justice because Colson’s mother, who was the only person inside the home when Latisha left, passed away shortly after the murder. Alexandra Colson explained that this prevented the family from obtaining potential information her grandmother might have had about the night of the shooting.
Sherman police previously offered a reward for information leading to an arrest in 2010. Former Sgt. Bruce Dawsey emphasized that Colson was a mother, sister, and daughter, and expressed confidence that someone knew details about the case.
