Denison firefighters are in the final stages of preparing for the city’s annual Independence Day celebration, which will feature the largest fireworks display in the community’s history. The event is scheduled for Saturday evening at Munson Stadium, located approximately 9 miles northeast of Sherman.
The production involves a dedicated team of roughly ten fire department personnel working closely with Denison Main Street. According to Lindsey, a fire department representative, the team handles the extensive wiring and setup required for the show. The work takes place in high temperatures, with firefighters spending long hours in the Texas heat to ensure the pyrotechnics are ready.
This year’s display will include approximately 1,000 fireworks launched over a 25-minute period. The department utilizes a fully electronic firing system, a technology adopted in 2014. This system allows the crew to operate the launch remotely from a distance of 300 to 400 feet, a change that Lindsey noted significantly improves safety compared to older methods.
The celebration extends beyond the fireworks finale. Gates at Munson Stadium open at 5 p.m. for the public. The evening includes food vendors, inflatable attractions, face painting, and amusement rides. Live music by Shawnda Rains Entertainment begins at 7:30 p.m., leading up to the pyrotechnic show.
