Sherman city council members have moved forward with preparations for the next phase of the US 75 highway project, approving a $1.6 million contract to relocate existing utilities. This step is required before construction crews can begin work on the roadway.
Nate Strauch, the city’s communication manager, stated that the upcoming phase is designated as Segment 2. The work will cover the stretch of Highway 75 running from FM 902 in Howe to FM 1417 in Sherman. Strauch noted that the city council approved the specific contract to move water and sewer lines, a necessary action to facilitate the broader construction efforts.
The project is part of a larger initiative managed by the Texas Department of Transportation, with a total cost exceeding $155.5 million. Strauch described the utility relocation as a preliminary step toward a multi-year goal.
He indicated that the ultimate objective is to upgrade the entire section of Highway 75 between the Collin County line and Spur 503 to interstate standards, featuring three lanes throughout the route.
