Chuy's, a Tex-Mex restaurant chain based in Austin, is pursuing a new location in Sherman. The company has identified a plot of land at the southeast corner of US 75 and US 82 as a potential site for its next expansion. Before construction can begin, the project must receive approval from the city's Planning and Zoning Board.
According to Nate Strauch, a spokesperson for the City of Sherman, the submission of a site plan is the initial step in the development process. This allows developers to formally request permission to build at a specific location. The land is currently being surveyed to determine its suitability for the proposed project. A vote on the matter is set for September 22.
Strauch noted that developers may choose to proceed with construction immediately or hold the site plan for a period of time depending on market conditions. He explained that every project is unique, and companies may wait if they feel it is better to delay until conditions improve.
The proposed location is in a busy area already seeing commercial growth. Texas Long Horn Steakhouse and Bubba's 33 are currently under construction in the same vicinity, indicating increased interest in the traffic volume along US 75.
Local residents have expressed interest in the potential arrival of the chain. On social media, Chris Eldon described the news as an answer to prayers, while Dan Acree stated he was excited about the prospect. Acree mentioned that he frequently drives to Frisco or McKinney to dine at existing Chuy's locations.
