The Victoria Generals (17-7) captured the first-half championship in the Texas Collegiate League after winning three of four games against the Sherman Shadowcats (6-14). The victory also guarantees the team a spot in the postseason playoffs.
Victoria entered the final stretch with a 3.5-game advantage over Acadiana in the standings. The series concluded with a 17-7 win on Sunday at Sherman, where third baseman Beck Zimmerman hit a grand slam in the eighth inning. Starting pitcher Asa Sampson earned the win by pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs.
The Generals had already secured the title with a 12-7 victory on Friday in Victoria. Right fielder Bryce Speakman and cleanup hitter Austin Marlin contributed significantly to the offense, while Parker McGrael took the mound for the win. The team then took a day off before traveling to San Antonio for a two-game series against the River Monsters starting Tuesday evening.
