Evergreen Life Services in Sherman has resumed its horticultural programs after a winter storm destroyed its greenhouse more than a year ago. The restoration was funded by the Leadership Sherman Class of 2026, which selected the nonprofit following interviews with local organizations. Spokesperson Rachel Graham stated the class raised slightly over $20,000, exceeding their initial goal. This surplus allowed for additional finishing touches not originally planned. The group utilized local contractors for the construction. Executive Director Teresa Berry noted the new structure is designed to withstand future severe weather. Members with intellectual and developmental disabilities will now use the facility to grow crops such as strawberries, blueberries, and squash. Participants described the return to gardening as a collaborative effort that helps build independence and skills.
