Sherman ISD is inviting residents to tour its new 8,000-seat stadium this Saturday afternoon. The facility will host its first Bearcats football game in one week, but the open house provides a separate opportunity for the public to explore the space. Gates on the home side will open at 5 p.m., followed by a pep rally at 6 p.m.
Athletic Director Alan McDougal stated that the event allows community members to access areas typically restricted during game nights. He noted that attendees will be able to visit the press box, view the officials' dressing area, and kick field goals on the turf. McDougal described the event as a chance for the district to share the new facility with the public.
The stadium is designed with convenience in mind, according to McDougal. He highlighted the ease of parking and accessing concessions as key features intended to create a seamless experience for spectators. The five-story structure will serve multiple programs, including football, soccer, band, and broadcasting.
McDougal emphasized that the new building represents a continuation of tradition rather than a break from it. He noted that the school has used Bearcat Stadium as its home for 85 years and views the new facility as a place to start new traditions.
A tribute to the school's football history is located at the 50-yard line on the home side, featuring a memorabilia room that includes a statue of Billy Bob Bearcat.
