Construction on the second segment of the US 75 project between FM 1417 in Sherman and FM 902 in Howe is scheduled to begin Oct. 5, provided weather conditions allow the work to start. The Texas Department of Transportation will place the stretch of highway in a work zone.
Grayson County Precinct One Commissioner Josh Marr said the project is expected to continue for at least two to three years. He said drivers may experience slower commutes during construction.
The planned work is intended to expand the highway to six lanes. Marr said the corridor carries substantial freight traffic, including semitrailers, and that the expansion is expected to reduce congestion.
The project includes two U-turn bridges at FM 1417 and a braided ramp just north of the intersection. Marr described the work as another part of the broader US 75 construction program in the area.
Segment three, located through downtown Sherman, has been completed, while segments four and five are under construction. TxDOT advises drivers to follow posted construction signs and reduce speed in the work zone.
