Jared Nuness, a former assistant men's basketball coach at Baylor University, is facing sanctions from the NCAA after acknowledging that he placed around 3,400 bets totaling approximately $38,000 on various professional and college sports. This situation arose from an investigation initiated by a third-party monitoring system that identified Nuness in November 2025.

Following the discovery, Baylor conducted an internal investigation and reported its findings to the NCAA in December 2025, which led to a collaborative inquiry. In February 2026, Nuness admitted to the NCAA that he breached its regulations by wagering on professional sports via two online platforms.

He also confessed to allowing his minor son to access these betting accounts, resulting in the child making three bets on NCAA Division I men's basketball games totaling $170.

The NCAA's findings indicated that none of the wagers were associated with Baylor University or its athletes. Nuness took full responsibility for his actions, and both he and the NCAA enforcement staff agreed to categorize the incident as a Level II-Standard violation.

Baylor Athletics confirmed its full cooperation with the NCAA during the investigation. According to spokesman Brent Ingram, the athletic department continues to prioritize compliance education, including ongoing collaboration with ProhiBet. Nuness, who departed from Baylor's coaching staff in December 2025 due to personal issues, is now under a two-year show-cause order.

This requires him to complete significant sports betting education and provide similar training to his peers. He is also subject to a 10 percent suspension from all athletically related activities, which translates to a three-game suspension, along with a public reprimand and censure.
