The Dallas Cowboys have completed a trade sending offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans in exchange for a seventh-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. Thomas, who is 25 years old, was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft after a college career at Louisiana.
He spent his rookie year on injured reserve but played in all 17 games during the 2025 season, starting four of them.
During the offseason, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer mentioned that Thomas and teammate Tyler Guyton would vie for the starting left tackle role. However, as training camp unfolded, Schottenheimer indicated that Guyton would maintain his position with the first-team offense, citing a need for greater consistency from Thomas.
To strengthen their offensive line, the Cowboys have also acquired Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who is capable of playing both left and right tackle. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones stated that the team has a plan for managing their offensive tackle situation as the roster cutdown deadline approaches. With the deadline for finalizing 53-man rosters set for 5:00 p.m.
