Coach Brian Schottenheimer remarked on the difficulty of these decisions, recognizing both Blue and Mafah as valued players drafted for their potential. Schottenheimer suggested that Blue and Mafah may seek advice from Davis as they deal with their current circumstances.
To enhance their roster, the Cowboys have acquired running back Emari Demercado off waivers from Kansas City. Schottenheimer noted Demercado's versatility and his ability to contribute on special teams as important factors in this acquisition, along with offensive coordinator Klayton Adams's prior experience with him in Arizona.
Regarding the potential of Blue or Mafah joining the practice squad, Schottenheimer expressed uncertainty, stating there were no assurances for either player. The Cowboys have currently filled 13 spots on their practice squad, which can accommodate up to 16 players, and they have an additional exemption for one more player as part of the International Player Pathway program, which includes defensive tackle Dayo Odeleye.
