The Philadelphia Eagles have added running back Jaydon Blue to their practice squad following his release from the Dallas Cowboys. Blue, a fifth-round draft pick from the University of Texas, was let go as the Cowboys shifted away from their "Thunder and Lightning" running back strategy. His time in Dallas was hindered by maturity issues that limited his playing time during his rookie year.

In a corresponding move, the Cowboys have signed Emari Demercado, who previously played for the Arizona Cardinals. Standing at 5 feet 11 inches and weighing 215 pounds, Demercado has demonstrated versatility and effectiveness, averaging 6.5 yards per carry in his college career. During his rookie year, he recorded an average of 4.9 yards per carry, improving to 9.3 yards per attempt in 2024.

Over three seasons with the Cardinals, he amassed 819 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 126 carries.

The Cowboys' current running back lineup features Malik Davis as the backup option and Hunter Luepke in the fullback position. Israel Abanikanda has also been brought back to the practice squad, while the status of second-year running back Phil Mafah is still unclear. The Cowboys will be monitoring Blue’s performance with the Eagles, hoping he does not thrive in a rival's colors.
