The Dallas Cowboys have brought back quarterback Joe Milton III to their practice squad after initially letting him go to make room for running back Emari Demercado. Milton went unclaimed during the waiver process and chose to rejoin the Cowboys, even with interest from other teams regarding their practice squads.
Star quarterback Dak Prescott shared his enthusiasm about Milton's return, noting the positive influence he has on the team's quarterback dynamics. Prescott acknowledged Milton's development over the offseason and stressed the need to support him as he copes with losing the QB2 role he held during the 2025 season. "I thought he would’ve been picked up in the waivers or whatever it is.
Fortunate for us, we got a hell of a player back and a guy that makes our room better," Prescott said, while also recognizing Milton's potential frustration and the importance of channeling it into further improvement.
Originally selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024, Milton was traded to the Cowboys before the 2025 season. His preseason statistics showed a marked enhancement, as he completed 29 passes out of 43 attempts for 378 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
This performance reflected a substantial increase in his consistency compared to the previous season, where he played in four games, achieving a completion rate of 62.5% and recording one touchdown along with two interceptions.
