Baylor University quarterback DJ Lagway is currently classified as day-to-day due to an ankle injury, according to head coach Dave Aranda. The team's decision on Lagway's participation in the upcoming game against Prairie View A&M will hinge on his practice performance this week.
In his debut for Baylor, Lagway threw for 333 yards, completing 27 out of 54 passes, with two touchdowns and one interception, in a close 17-16 loss to Auburn. The Bears missed a critical two-point conversion attempt late in the game, which played a role in their defeat.
Auburn's head coach Alex Golesh commended Lagway's determination, highlighting his ability to keep playing despite the injury. Golesh remarked on Lagway's grit, emphasizing his toughness.
Lagway, who transferred to Baylor after spending two seasons at Florida, was a highly regarded prospect, ranked third in his recruiting class. He had previously started for the Gators under head coach Billy Napier but opted to transfer following Napier's departure.
Last season at Florida, Lagway recorded a total of 2,264 yards passing, along with 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, as the Gators finished with a 4-8 record. Former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow noted that Lagway needed a fresh start and expressed hope for his success at Baylor, stating that he would likely play with more joy, which could lead to improved performance.
