As the Houston Texans prepare for their 2026 regular season, they have revealed their team captains. This year, the team has selected four players for this leadership role, one less than last season. The chosen captains include quarterback C.J. Stroud, defensive end Will Anderson, linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair, and defensive back Jalen Pitre, who will be a captain for the first time.
The adjustment in leadership comes after the release of veteran running back Dare Ogunbowale, who served as a captain last year and is currently a free agent. Wide receiver Nico Collins, another captain from the previous season, is the only player not returning in a leadership capacity.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans has highlighted the significance of leadership within the team, emphasizing the strong culture he has established since becoming head coach in 2023. The Texans have made efforts to recruit players recognized for their leadership skills, including safety Reed Blankenship, acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, along with several draft picks who had captaincy roles in college.
All four captains have a minimum of three years with the Texans, and Pitre stands out as the most experienced, entering his fifth season. Their selection underscores their influence and presence in the locker room as the team gears up for the season.
The Texans will introduce their captains during their first game against the Buffalo Bills, scheduled for 12 p.m. CT on Sunday, September 13th.
