The Houston Texans have received encouraging news regarding offensive tackle Braden Smith, who is anticipated to be sidelined for a few weeks because of a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This information follows an injury scare that occurred during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while Smith's injury raises concerns, it is not deemed severe and should not lead to a lengthy absence. According to Sleeper's Jacob Barzilla, the Texans will likely require Smith's services at some point during the season.
Smith joined the Texans in the offseason on a two-year contract valued at $20 million, with expectations to assume the starting right tackle role. His injury contributes to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the team's offensive line. ESPN's Adam Schefter noted that Smith might be out for a few weeks, which is a preferable scenario compared to more serious injuries.
The team may not feel pressured to rush Smith back, as Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, is currently filling in at right tackle, and Blake Fisher has shown promise during the preseason.
Further updates on Smith's recovery and the Texans' offensive line will be provided as the season progresses.
