The Houston Texans have brought defensive end Chris Braswell onto their practice squad after he was recently released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Braswell, who was a highly regarded five-star recruit, played college football at Alabama, where he achieved eight sacks and ten tackles for loss while taking over as the Jack linebacker following Will Anderson Jr.'s departure.
His performance was second on the team, only behind Dallas Turner, who was picked 17th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Although Braswell showed promise, he faced challenges in the NFL, having been drafted in the second round by Tampa Bay but failing to secure a starting role. He managed only two and a half sacks in two seasons, which contributed to his release, particularly after missing parts of the preseason and being outperformed by his teammates.
In Houston, Braswell will reunite with former Alabama teammates Will Anderson Jr. and Logan Hall, who also played with the Buccaneers. He is expected to serve as a backup behind Dominique Robinson, Sebastian Harsh, and Jadeveon Clowney on the depth chart. Given the Texans' current injury challenges at defensive end, there is a chance he could be moved to the active roster.
Adapting to Houston's 4-3 defensive scheme will require him to focus more on edge-setting and pass rushing, presenting an opportunity for him to develop further in his career.
