The Houston Texans have reinstated Dare Ogunbowale on their 53-man roster ahead of their home matchup with the Dallas Cowboys, expanding the running back group to four. Ogunbowale returned after a short stint with the Las Vegas Raiders.
David Montgomery and Woody Marks are expected to handle most of Houston's offensive snaps, while British Brooks could remain ahead of Ogunbowale in the weekly rotation. The veteran is therefore not expected to immediately take a leading offensive role.
Ogunbowale played for Houston from 2022 through 2025, appearing in more than 60 games. He had 91 carries for 295 yards and three touchdowns during that period, with most of his work coming on special teams. He also logged more than 1,000 special-teams snaps over those four seasons and was a team captain last season.
The report did not identify the specific reason for the signing. It could provide insurance against an injury, although player injury information for Week 4 was not expected until after Wednesday's practice, or add an experienced special-teams option. Sports Illustrated reported that coach DeMeco Ryans has repeatedly praised Ogunbowale and that the move adds leadership and special-teams experience.
