Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins was not present during the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to reporters, his third consecutive missed session. Collins suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain before Houston faced Cincinnati in Week 2 and did not play in that game.
The Texans also were without tight end Dalton Schultz, offensive linemen Trent Brown and Ed Ingram, and edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney during the media-access period. No additional information was provided about those players’ statuses.
Houston’s passing production dipped without Collins against the Bengals. Schultz paced the team with 12 catches and 140 yards. Xavier Hutchinson, Kayshon Boutte and Jaylin Noel had seven receptions combined, and no Houston wide receiver recorded more than three catches or 40 yards.
The Texans are 0-2 entering Week 3. If Collins remains unavailable against the Indianapolis Colts, Hutchinson, Boutte and Noel would be expected to take on larger roles, while offensive coordinator Nick Caley would prepare for another game without the team’s top wideout. Collins could return in Week 4 against the Dallas Cowboys, but his Week 3 availability has not been determined.
