As the Texas Longhorns gear up for the 2026 football season, the left guard position is still under review by the coaching staff, including head coach Steve Sarkisian and offensive line coach Kyle Flood. Laurence Seymore, a transfer from Western Kentucky, is currently seen as the likely starter after participating in the first-team offensive line during the team's initial fall scrimmage.

However, the Longhorns are not limiting their options. Dylan Sikorski, who joined from Oregon State and has experience starting six games at left guard last season, is also being considered. Other candidates include Jaydon Chatman and Cole Hutson, who brings over 1,000 career offensive snaps at Texas to the competition.

The coaching staff is not feeling pressured to make a decision about the left guard position before the season opener, which allows for continued evaluation. Sarkisian has pointed out that successful offensive line performance depends on more than just individual skills; effective communication and team chemistry are essential, particularly when facing tough opponents.

Sarkisian has underscored the need for stability on the offensive line to ensure protection for quarterback Arch Manning. The first scrimmage showcased good cohesion among the first-team offensive line, which also experimented with different lineups. If Seymore secures the starting role, it could provide the Longhorns with the stability they need.

Yet, should the team require a different skill set based on performance in run or pass situations, they have strong alternatives to adapt their strategy as needed, reflecting Texas' depth and planning as the season approaches.
