A Dominant Pitching Performance

Joey Volchko delivered a masterclass on the mound, striking out 15 batters over nine innings to lead the Georgia Bulldogs to a 7-1 victory over the Texas Longhorns on Sunday, June 14, 2026. The performance not only secured the win for Georgia but also set a new record for strikeouts in a single game. Volchko allowed four hits and one walk while allowing zero earned runs, completing the game with a perfect scoreline. His 11th win of the season improved his record to 11-2, while the loss dropped Texas pitcher Dylan Volantis to 10-2.

Early Georgia Surge

The Bulldogs established control early, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. R. Lujo homered to left field, driving in T. Phelps to give Georgia a 2-0 advantage. The run total doubled shortly after when Texas pitcher D. Volantis issued a wild pitch. The play allowed M. O'Shaughnessy to score, and despite a throwing error by catcher C. Tinney, K. Ishikawa and B. Hudson capitalized on the chaos to extend the lead to 4-0. The inning showcased Georgia’s ability to capitalize on miscues and power hitting.

Texas Responds and Late Inning Explosion

The Longhorns finally broke through in the fifth inning. A. Rodriguez reached third base on a throwing error by Volchko. E. Mendoza followed with a single to shallow right, scoring Rodriguez to make it 4-1. However, the scoring was not over for Georgia. In the seventh inning, R. Lujo doubled to deep left, bringing T. Phelps home to push the score to 5-1. The final run came when K. Ishikawa singled to shallow right, driving in both D. Jackson and Lujo to seal the 7-1 final.

Relief Support and Final Record

Texas utilized a three-man pitching staff in an attempt to stop the Bulldogs' offense. Brett Crossland pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two batters without giving up any runs. Michael Winter closed out the game with one inning of work, allowing one walk and one strikeout. The final attendance at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska, was 25,002. With this result, Georgia improves its record to 52-12, while Texas falls to 45-14.
