Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal lifts Oklahoma past Texas, 27-24

Tate Sandell's 47-yard field goal completed Oklahoma's fourth-quarter rally, giving the Sooners a 27-24 victory over Texas on Saturday at the Cotton Bowl.

Sandell decides it

A 47-yard field goal by Oklahoma's Tate Sandell was the final scoring play Saturday, giving the Sooners a 27-24 victory over Texas at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Oklahoma, the home team, finished the fourth quarter with 17 points after trailing Texas 17-10 through three quarters. Attendance was 92,100.

Texas takes control

Texas led 7-0 after the first quarter and extended its advantage in the second. Cam Coleman scored on a 41-yard pass from Arch Manning, followed by Gianni Spetic's kick. Oklahoma tied the game when Dakoda Fields returned a blocked punt 0 yards for a touchdown, with Sandell converting the kick.

Ryan Wingo then caught a 34-yard touchdown pass from Manning, and Spetic added a 23-yard field goal to put Texas ahead 17-7 at halftime. The Longhorns were held scoreless in the third quarter, while Sandell's 53-yard field goal moved Oklahoma within 17-10.

Oklahoma's fourth-quarter finish

Oklahoma tied the game at 17 when Lloyd Avant scored on a 2-yard run and Sandell made the extra point. Texas regained the lead on Peyton Bowen's 42-yard interception return, followed by another Sandell kick. The Sooners answered when Jermaine Bishop Jr. caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Manning, with Spetic's kick making it 24-24.

Sandell's 47-yard field goal then produced the 27-24 final. Avant finished with 10 carries for 72 yards and one touchdown. John Mateer completed 18 of 26 passes for 155 yards for Oklahoma, while Isaiah Sategna III had five receptions for 64 yards.

Manning completed 19 of 31 passes for 260 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions for Texas. Coleman had five receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown, and Derrek Cooper carried eight times for 41 yards.

Oklahoma moved to 3-2, while Texas fell to 4-1.
