Fifth-Inning Explosion
A single five-inning surge of offense defined the Texas Rangers’ victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday. The Rangers broke open a tight contest with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, turning a one-run deficit into a commanding lead that ultimately secured the 6-2 win at Chase Field.
The game remained deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the decisive frame. Texas changed the momentum when Nick Gordon singled to center field, driving in Nathaniel Lowe. The rally continued as Adolis García doubled to right, scoring Lowe and advancing García to third.
The inning concluded with a two-run single by Josh Smith, who drove in both García and Michael Seager. This barrage of six runs gave Texas a 6-2 advantage heading into the sixth inning.
Pitching Performances
Arizona’s Brandon Pfaadt took the loss after allowing six earned runs on ten hits over 6 2/3 innings. Despite striking out seven batters and issuing no walks, he could not contain the Rangers’ offensive explosion in the fifth. Jonathan Loaisiga, Derek Law, and Juan Morillo combined for two scoreless innings to preserve the deficit.
For Texas, Robert Garcia earned the win with a perfect inning of relief, retiring the side in order without allowing a hit or walk while striking out one batter. Jacob Latz closed out the game with 1 1/3 innings of work, matching that perfection by not allowing any hits or walks and recording two strikeouts.
Nathan Eovaldi pitched 2 2/3 innings for the Rangers, allowing one earned run on four hits while striking out two batters. Kumar Rocker started for Texas, pitching 4 innings with five strikeouts but allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks.
