Late Surge Defines Victory
Corey Seager delivered the decisive blow in the eighth inning, launching a two-out home run that broke a tie and propelled the Texas Rangers to an 8-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. The win allowed Texas to complete a split of the four-game series at Globe Life Field, improving their record to 71-73, while Tampa Bay fell to 85-58.
Early Offense Sets Tone
The Rangers established an early lead in the second inning against Rays starter Ian Seymour. The rally began when Mesa Jr. singled to left field, driving in Nick Simpson. Fortes followed with a bunt single that scored Mateo, and Díaz added another run with a center-field single. Aranda capped the frame with a sacrifice fly to center, giving Texas a 4-0 advantage.
Tampa Bay responded immediately. Jake Burger homered to left-center field, cutting the deficit to 4-1. The Rays tied the game in the fourth inning when Caminero’s sacrifice fly scored Díaz, followed by Burger’s two-run homer to center that put Tampa Bay ahead 5-4. Foscue then doubled to right, scoring both O’Hoppe and Duran to give the Rays a 5-5 tie.
Pitching Performances
MacKenzie Gore struggled in his start for Texas, allowing five earned runs on seven hits over three innings. Trevor Williams entered with the game tied and secured the win by pitching two hitless innings. Chase Silseth, Tyler Alexander, and Jacob Latz each pitched a scoreless inning to maintain the lead before Jakob Junis closed out the game with his sixth save.
