Stroll on the Square takes wine tasters on a six-country tour of downtown tonight

Downtown Sherman's fall wine walk is back on Saturday night, and this year organizers have built it around an itinerary.

Stroll on the Square runs from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3, with the theme "Stroll Around the World." According to Downtown Sherman Now, which organizes the event with Lake & Luxe Event Magic, guests will move between 17 themed stops pouring and serving samples tied to six wine countries: the United States, Italy, France, Spain, Australia and Romania.

Five additional "layover" stops will offer refreshments along the route.

Tickets and check-in

General admission is $40. The ticket covers a wine glass, an event passport and the wine and food samples at each stop, Downtown Sherman Now's event page says. Check-in runs from 5:15 to 8:15 p.m. on the steps of the Grayson County Courthouse, 100 W. Houston St. Organizers list the event as rain or shine.

Tickets are sold online through the organization's website and Eventbrite.

A smaller warm-up already held

The weekend opened with a separate VIP Grand Tasting on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Sherman Municipal Ballroom, 405 N. Rusk St. That $100 event featured nine wines, hors d'oeuvres and jazz.

The stroll has become one of the downtown group's signature events, drawing visitors into the shops, restaurants and businesses that surround the courthouse square. Karen Tooley of Downtown Sherman Now and Jessica Jones of Lake & Luxe Event Magic previewed this year's edition on KXII's "Talk of the Town" earlier in the week.

The event page does not list an age requirement; buyers with questions can reach Downtown Sherman Now through its website.
