The Texoma Council of Governments is collecting portable space heaters this month and plans to hand them out in November in Sherman, the agency's aging services director told KTEN.
The drive is a joint effort with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Donated heaters must be brand new, and they can be dropped off at the council's office at 1117 Gallagher Drive in Sherman any time in October, according to KTEN's report on Sunday. People who would rather give money can write a check to the Texoma Council of Governments.
Where the heaters go
The giveaway is set for November at VFW Post 2772 in Sherman, timed to the post's yearly Thanksgiving lunch. Organizers told the station that anyone may come for a heater until the supply runs out. A specific date and time for the distribution had not been announced.
Cara Lavender, who directs aging services for the council, described the drive as a recurring effort. "We're going to be collecting heaters through October and we will be distributing the heaters at our Sherman VFW post 2772 at the same time as their thanksgiving lunch gathering that they have every year," she told KTEN.
