Theater For Hope will hold open auditions later this month for its holiday production of "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," a stage version of the C.S. Lewis novel adapted by Joseph Robinette.

Tryouts run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 26, and again on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at Hope on Houston, 901 E. Houston St. in Sherman. Performers only need to attend one of the two evenings.

There is no sign-up in advance. According to director Webster Crocker, those trying out fill out an audition form when they arrive and then read a few scenes from the script.

A big cast

The show calls for more than 20 performers. Roles include the four Pevensie siblings, the Professor, Mrs. Macready, Mr. Tumnus, the White Witch, Aslan, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and Fenris Ulf, among others. Parts range in age from 9 to adult, and the theater says it welcomes whole families auditioning together.

Anyone cast should plan on a three-night-a-week schedule. Rehearsals start Monday, Nov. 2, and run Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. Performances are set for Dec. 17, 18 and 19.

Theater For Hope describes itself as a nonprofit community theater that aims to give young people in the area a family-friendly place to learn about and build skills in the performing arts.

More details are posted on the group's website, Theatre 4 Hope, and at facebook.com/theaterforhope.
