frisco.city chose Corey Seager for The Hit That Counted, Sherman's offensive doorway into a 2-0 Rangers win that national coverage hung on Jacob deGrom's 2,000th strikeout.
ESPN timed Seager's home run in the third against Andrew Alvarez: 382 feet, opposite field, left-center, first run of the night at Globe Life Field. The same box lists Seager 2-for-4 with a double and that homer - his 13th long ball and 31st RBI - two of Texas' six hits.
Empty RISP column
Texas went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position and left eight on base, ESPN and the Associated Press both report. Run number two arrived in the eighth on Ezequiel Duran's triple and Nicky Lopez's sacrifice fly, still without a hit in the RISP column. Seager's solo shot carried the lead for five innings in front of a combined one-hitter.
Alvarez (2-5) lasted five innings with four hits, one earned run, three walks, and five strikeouts, per ESPN. The AP said the Nationals arrived with the majors' highest-scoring offense and still were shut out for a fifth time (second in three games).
One run, three arms behind deGrom
deGrom threw six innings with one hit and 10 strikeouts. Jake Junis, Chase Silseth, and Jacob Latz (25th save) finished the one-hitter, the AP and ESPN show. The Dallas Morning News and ESPN had Texas at 63-65, tied for the third AL wild-card spot; Washington was 61-68.
