The Sherman Economic Development Corporation board will vote Tuesday on a rewritten license for the laydown yard in Progress Park VII, the only business item on its public agenda that names a specific deal.
The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, in the SEDCO board room at 307 W. Washington St., Suite 102. The notice, signed by SEDCO President Kent Sharp, was posted at City Hall on Oct. 21, according to the certificate from chief financial officer Ashton Bellows.
The laydown yard
Item 9 asks the board to approve Resolution No. SEDCO-2026.05, described as the Second Amended and Restated License Agreement for the Laydown Yard in Progress Park VII. The agenda does not say who holds the license, what the yard is used for or what is changing.
The same yard is also listed for closed-door discussion under the section of state law on real property, along with infrastructure in the Progress Parks and a general item on disposition and acquisition.
The yard has been on the board's private agenda before. Minutes from the July 28 meeting list a laydown yard in Progress Park, about 1 acre in the Progress Parks and Progress Park infrastructure among the executive session topics. After that session the board voted unanimously for a resolution authorizing money for a change order on rail construction in Progress Park.
Prospects behind code names
The agenda lists 19 business prospects by code name for private discussion under Section 551.087, which it labels business prospect and economic development: Wrap, EZ, Zion, Turtle, Mammoth, Boston, Baby Boston, Stop Sign, Open Aperture, Pentagon, Simmer, Barn Swallow, Frontier, Odysseus Son, Meadow, Neon, Norton, Iris and Ad Astra.
Seven of those names, Frontier, Odysseus Son, Meadow, Neon, Norton, Iris and Ad Astra, were not on the Aug. 20 agenda, which listed 14. Two names from August, Blue Carbon and Flare, do not appear this time. SEDCO does not say which companies the names stand for.
A personnel item covers discussion of staff, including the president and CEO's employment agreement. Any action on closed-session items would have to be taken after the board returns to open session.
