Residents who live along Davenport Road southeast of Sherman, or who drive Luella Road across Choctaw Creek, are invited to hear what engineers have found about cutting flood risk there.
Grayson County will hold a public meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the second-floor assembly room of the Grayson County Courthouse in Sherman. The meeting is listed as an announcement on the Commissioners Court agenda posted for Tuesday, Nov. 10.
According to the county's notice, the session concerns a Texas Water Development Board program studying proposed flood mitigation for flooding along Choctaw Creek at Davenport Road. The project is meant to reduce flood risk and improve stormwater handling where the creek crosses Luella Road and for homes along Davenport Road.
Members of the project team plan to give an overview, go over the expected benefits and next steps, and take comments and questions from the public. The notice does not list cost estimates, specific design options or a construction timeline, so the meeting is the first chance for residents to see those details and weigh in.
Holiday events go to the court too
The same agenda includes two requests tied to Sherman's holiday season. Commissioners will be asked to approve use of the courthouse grounds for the city's annual Snowflake Festival and Santa pictures, and use of the courthouse steps for Christmas Thunder, an instrumental caroling event.
In an email attached to the agenda, an assistant director of the Sherman High School band asked to hold Christmas Thunder on the steps from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.
